Obviously, the drive was destroyed by the fall,Clicking is not a noise you want to hear on a hard drive. Even a single drop can turn the drive into paper weight.I’m afraid the drive is dead and to retrieve the data will cost you more than you think

Data recovery people would only recover the data and destroy the harddrive, and it doesn’t sound like you care if the data is deleted, you have backups I assume, but those people have very very strickt privacy protecion policyies so I wouldn’t worry about them seeing your data. If you return it to the manufacturer it is similarly illegal for them to view the data on the harddrive, they will most likely throw it away and send you a new one because clicking is indicative of a very serious failure. If in case they do not destroy the harddrive but fix it, then most companies format the drive before they test it, to eliminate any possible software issues, this would similarly wipe your data.

However, if someone sees illegal data on your harddrive I belive it is within their rights to report you to the proper authorities, unless that is explicitly denied by their contract with you.
