Microsoft distributes operating system updates in service packs. Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is the one that supports several new types of hardware standards, apart from including a set of new features. This includes Windows Search 4.0, support for VIA 64-bit CPUs, improved and simplified support for Wi-Fi connection and more. But you might observe certain problems while installing Windows Vista SP2. You might receive an error stating that the service pack installation cannot continue due to missing system components. While such situations, you may need to perform clean reinstallation of Windows Vista and use your recent data backup to restore. However, if backup fails to give required results or is currently unavailable, you can use Data Recovery Solutions as the key to recover and restore lost data.

While trying to install Windows Vista SP2, you might receive an error message that is similar to:

“Service Pack installation cannot continue
One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing.”

You can not continue Windows Vista SP2 installation after this error message.

Cause

As the error message suggests, this error message occurs when service pack could not find one or more system components that it requires. It might happen when you use vLite software that removes some system components.

vLite is a freeware application that is used to create customized installation of Windows Vista before actually installing it.

Solution

You should first backup all the data and try below mentioned steps:

You can perform in-place upgrade to Windows Vista. To do so, you need to use Windows Vista installation disc to boot your system and choose Upgrade option, when you encounter ‘Which type of installation do you want’ screen. After this, you should activate your Windows Vista copy. If the above measure fails, you should perform clean reinstallation of Windows Vista. In this case, you need to opt for Custom (advanced) option using Windows Vista installation disc.

After this, you need to restore data from last backup. If you face any issue while restoring from backup, Disk Recovery application might help. These are powerful utilities designed to scan your disk for lost data and recover them at a safe location. In addition, you find such Data Recovery tools with graphically rich interface.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is a comprehensive Disk Recovery product with native support to Windows 7 (currently in RC1), Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000. It is a non-destructive tool providing advanced features like Drive Cloning, Disk Imaging and Drive Status. It supports FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems.
