Having a backup strategy for you PC data and files is important to the protection of your crucial information in the event of a disaster. Most PC users do not think about PC data backup and then when their system crashes, a virus strikes, or some other unexpected disaster happens, they are left high and dry without a means of retrieving important files and data.

Another method for backing up your files and data is through the use of external storage devices such as a flash drive, external hard drive, or CD/DVD. Once you backup your files store the device in a safe location where you can access it in the event of a fire or other disaster.

Set Up a Routine
Some PC users create a strategy for backing up data and then they fail to get into the habit of sticking to a routine. If you want to ensure that all of your bases are covered it is important design a routine that becomes a habit over a period of time.
For example, if you are using an online backup service set your interface with the online backup service to automatically backup your files and data. For external storage you can set a reminder in a program such as Google Calendar that will alert you to remember to backup your files.
Set your PC data backup routine to your specific needs and according to how often your data changes. For example, if you only use your PC once or twice a week a daily backup many not be necessary. On the other hand, if you constantly use your PC for business you will need to backup on a daily or hourly basis.
Test, Test, and Test Again
Once you have a routine backup strategy for your PC make sure you test each system on a regular basis to ensure that it is working properly. If one of your methods is online backup some of the services will indicate on your interface exactly what is being backed up and what is not. If the service does not provide this option you can access your files that are backed up to double check on the backup status.
If you are using external storage devices for backup you should make a habit of testing them to make sure your data is being backed up properly. You can do this by accessing the external devices on the designated drive on your computer and checking the data and files for backup status.
